An Award-Winning Walking Club

For over 30 years, the Wood and Dale Wanderers, a 501(c)3 fitness activity affiliated with the Virginia Volkssport Association and the American Volkssports Association (aka "America's Walking Club", has provided safe walking and biking trails, and social popular-sport events in Prince William County and in Northern Virginia.  In 2019 we were one of only two walking clubs in the nation recognized by the American Volkssports Association with the "Trailblazer Club Award" for being leaders in the field of social popular-sports.

We start with seven year-round trails ...

The club hosts seven year-round trails of 5 and 10 kilometers (3 and 6 miles) that walkers of all abilities can do at their own pace and when their schedule allows (providing the facilities are open).  Those who are physically challenged to do the sanctioned distances are encouraged to go as far as they can.

"Start boxes" are available for most trails or by using the America's Walking Club "Online Start Box" option.

Prince William Forest Park (National Park Service)
Leesylvania State Park (Virginia State Park)
National Museum of the Marine Corps
Historic Downtown Manassas
Monclair/Dumfries ... neighborhood walks of 6/10 km
Potomac Mills Mall (an all-indoor event)
Manassas Battlefield (National Park Service)

Unfortunately, the Potomac Mills morning walking "club" (Potomac Mills Milers) is no longer available, however, walkers from throughout the county do enter near the food-court area and walk for steps inside one-hour before the official time that the stores are open.

... And we add the fellowship of
traditional events and actively support other walking efforts in the county.

The club offers traditional events in the county once or twice a year to promote walking together and showcasing our communities to walkers from around the world.

Since January 2019 until 2021, the club sponsored the award and recognition programs of the Potomac Mills Milers Club, the Commonwealth's longest and largest mall-walking program.  This walking program is on a "permanent hold" pending new directions from the Mall management.

In January 2020, club members became active in the newly created Prince William County Trail Coalition to help promote the best walking available in Northern VA.

We are planning key events to celebrate America's 250th

The nation will celebrate together in 2026 and as part of the Virginia 250th campaign we will highlight Prince William County's trails that are part of the Washington-Rochambeau National Historic Trail.   In 2019 we tested the concept of walking the national historic trail through the county with a border-to-border 18-mile trek. Our club is the Commonwealth's focus for a partnership with the Virginia chapter of the Washington-Rochambeau Revolutionary Route Association (W3R) with its national and state walking award programs.
